Newburgh’s Hollow Square Market will be a bewitching place to be on Oct. 15 when they celebrate the season with their second annual Hollow’s Eve event.

Running from 3 to 9 p.m., the market will feature an enchanting mix of harvest and Halloween fun for the whole family while celebrating artists, musicians, makers and growers.

“We have 50 talented local artisans that are going to be joining us for this year’s event which include jewelry, wood-working, clothing, soap, candles, syrup, honey, baked goods and much more,” said Francie Kennedy, one of the organizers with the Hollow Square Market. “We have a quite a great lineup of local artisans joining us.”

Along with exploring the many vendors and listening to the live music, visitors to the market will have the chance to take part in a unique art project, led by Sarah Johnson of Smash Studio Co.

“She’s doing two kind of different experiences,” explains Alene Parr, a co-organizer of the Hollow Market. “There’s her usual smash-a-thon but then she’s also doing a glow paint smash-a-thon that’s really exciting and really cool. Once it gets dark it’ll be a glow-in-the-dark paint experience.”

The smash-a-thon will involve participants mixing paint onto a plate and then smashing it onto a giant community canvas. Each splatter will be a unique contribution to the group project while also shining a light on mental health awareness. All PPE is provided and it is a kid friendly event.

The Cauldron Sisters will be appearing at Hollow’s Eve in Newburgh on Oct. 15.

As dusk approached, the witches of the Cauldron Sisters will make an appearance to perform their dance ritual in full costume.

As with last year, the organizers of the market are hosting a toiletry drive and will be accepting menstruation products, soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, mouthwash, razors, shaving cream, toilet paper, hairbrushes, incontinence products, deodorant, cleaning wipes, Band-Aids, eye drops, pajamas, socks and underwear. Items collected will be donated to local charities who assist those in need.

“Last year we collected enough products to distribute to three different organizations which was really awesome,” said Parr. “It blew us away how generous people were.”

As the event gets closer, the Hollow Square Market Facebook and Instagram page will continue to highlight the many different vendors that will be on hand for the event. Hollow’s Eve will mark the conclusion of Newburgh’s outdoor market season, which ran every second Saturday from June 4 to Oct. 15. The market is located at 425 Main St. in Newburgh.
