NDSS’ wresting team established itself as a force to be reckoned with at the EOSSAA championships, held at LCVI on Thursday.

Facing off against the top high school wrestlers from across Eastern Ontario, six Golden Hawks qualified for OFSAA.

NDSS’ girls’ team captured the EOSSAA title on the strength of gold medals from Isabelle McGinnis and Robyn Moffat along with silvers by Anna Van Hoek and Madalyn Lee, with a hard-earned bronze from Kaitlyn O’Blenis.

On the boys’ side Anderson Holmes and Kade Markland-Kinney finished second and third respectively, helping the boys finish third overall.

Of the eight Hawks that competed at EOSSAA, six finished in the top two in their weight class, which advances them to OFSAA. The all-Ontario high school championship will be held March 6-8 in Ottawa.

This year marked the first time NDSS had hosted a wrestling team in over two decades. Their season included a tournament at Trenton High School and one a Bayside Secondary School, mixed in with three days a week of training. Their hard work paid off as the Hawks have quickly built one of the premier programs in the Kingston region.
