NDSS Golden Hawk wrestlers combined to go 26-18 at OFSAA, held March 5-6 in Hamilton.

That record marked a significant improvement on 2023’s showing, which was Napanee’s first time fielding a wrestling team in nearly two decades. Their strides made were noted by their fellow Ontario wrestling programs at the event.

Four of Napanee’s team members finished in the top 12 out of 862 total athletes from across the province: Ben Taylor 95kg, Maddy Lee 72kg, Isabelle McGinnis 67.5kg and Anna Van Hoek 61kg.

Also representing Napanee after qualifying at EOSSAA were: Tyler Nibourg, Parker Fawcett, Ava Amodeo, Robyn Moffat and Mia Hollywood Mack.

Van Hoek, a Grade 10, accomplished a first for the NDSS wrestling program in 27 years, making it to the second day. She finished eighth out of 36 wrestlers in the 64kg weight class. That feat was all the more impressive considering she wrestled up a weight class.

“All NDSS Wrestlers left an indelible impression on their opponents as skilled, resilient athletes with sportsmanship and camaraderie,” said Hawks coach Jeff Brady.
