Greater Napanee’s drinking water systems are up to code for 2019, says Kristie Kelly, manager of environmental compliance with the Town of Greater Napanee.

Kelly informed town council as part of her annual presentation during last Tuesday’s regular meeting. Getting up to code required a few changes for the town, though most were administrative in nature.

“In 2018 it was our three year review requirement,” Kelly told council. “We had a desktop audit but then we also had the onsite audit where they came and looked at our documentation. You will see there were seven non-compliances and 14 opportunities for improvement. That number is quite high but I’d like to note that prior to that the QMS (quality management systems) standards had been updated by the province. This was our first audit to adapt to that.”

Kelly said the requirements were minimal in nature for them to address in order to get re-accredited for the next three years.

“We were already doing a lot f the things but it wasn’t written out in our procedures,” said Kelly.

Since the audit, they had addressed all the non-compliances and were working on all of the areas for improvement. Kelly informed council that the town had since been granted re-accreditation by the province for the next three years.

As is part of the town’s policy, Kelly also presented council with their operational plan.

“At a minimum, once every four years within the first quarter of a new term of council, we’re going to ask for a re-endorsement (of the plan),” said Kelly. “You’re having a chance to have a fresh look at all the significant changes and having an opportunity to introduce it yourselves.”

Council received a copy of the plan and will vote on it at the next meeting.
