Scott Chadwick’s curling team has undergone a bit of a shakeup as they prepare for the 2021-22 season.

The Napanee native has been a member of Scott McDonald’s rink since 2018, which is based out of Kingston. A post from the team’s official Twitter account reported McDonald has departed the team to pursue other opportunities. Reaming team members Chadwick, Jon Beuk and Wes Forget have announced Tanner and Jacob Horgan will be joining the team.

Line-up details and a new team name will be announced at a later date.

Jacob Horgan will be joining in a full-time fifth position. Tanner skipped his Manitoba based rink to a top 10 CTRS (Canadian team ranking system) during the 2019-2020 season and both he and Jacob are former two-time Canadian Junior silver medalists.

Chadwick says the team plans to compete on the World Curling Tour and Sportsnet Grand Slam Series next season with the goal of qualifying for the Olympic trials Nov. 20-28 in Saskatoon.

“We are eager to bring Tanner into the lineup as he is a proven young talent that has skipped his men’s team at an elite level,” said Chadwick. “Jacob adds a level of depth to our team that is much needed as we continue to face the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the World Curling Tour.”

Chadwick says they will hold off on announcing the team’s skip at this time.

“We plan to use the off-season to create a team structure that gives us the best chance to win when its time to hit the ice again,” added Chadwick.

“Joining a team with their experience gives me an exciting opportunity to push to the next level,” said Tanner. “They obviously had success as Team McDonald, but I was able to pass them in the world rankings at the end of the 2019-20 season which I think drew their attention.”

Chadwick, who now resides in Kingston, grew up playing at the Napanee and District Curling Club. The 30-year-old served as lead for Team McDonald. His team captured the 2019 Ontario Tankard and went on to represent the province at the Brier in Manitoba.
