Napanee’s Jack Magilton earns Legion’s prestigious Palm Leaf Award

District G Commander Ken Heagle; President Peggy Sunstrum, Dominion Vice-President Brian Weaver and Dominion C&L Chairman Dave Gordon, present the Palm Leaf to Comrade William John Magilton of the Lt. Col. Harry Babcock Branch 137 in Napanee, Ontario.

Comrade Jack Magilton of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 137 in Napanee recently received the Palm Leaf Award, the highest honour bestowed by Dominion Command.

Comrade Magilton received his Life Member Award in 2012 and his Meritorious Service Medal in 2018. At age 84, he continues to contribute to our Legion, and is well respected by all members of our Branch at all levels.

To even be considered for the prestigious Palm Leaf, a Legion member must first earn the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM). After that, only their service to the Legion in the years after earning the MSM are taken into considering when awarding the Palm Leaf.

Comrade Magilton has 32 years of service with the Royal Canadian Legion. His unwavering dedication to the Legion and his fellow Veterans is noted in the committees he has led, or contributed to: President, Parade Commander, Poppy Chair, Finance Committee Chairperson, Friday Lunch Organizer, Constitution Bylaws, Youth Education, Fair Booth Chairperson, Cadet Liaison Officer, Sgt-at-arms, Disciplinary/Complaints Committee, Colour Sergeant, Financial Review Committee, just  to mention just a few.

He has been, and still is, a leader, mentor, and a trusted friend to many Veterans and RCL members, who have passed through Branch 137. The local Legion says it is proud and honoured to have Comrade Jack Magilton be awarded the Palm Leaf Award.

Congratulations Jack well deserved.
