Softball Napanee’s battery of Brendan Hagerman and Connor Brooks were recognized during Softball Canada’s Annual General Meeting, held Saturday in Richmond, BC.

Hagerman, a catcher with the Napanee AFW Express, was named the Ethel Boyce Achievement Award male winner, which comes with a $1,000 bursary towards university or college. Hagerman represented Canada at the 2018 World Junior Softball Championship as well as Napanee at the provincial level this passed summer. He was a member of the 2018 national champion Express as well.

In October he was named to the 2020 Men’s National Team Pool of players, along with teammate Riley Manion.

Brooks, a pitcher with the U16 and U19 Express as well as recent gold medal winner with Team Canada at the WBSC U17 Pan American Games, was named Softball Canada’s Minor Male Athlete of the Year. A newly established award, it is voted on by coaches and members of Softball Canada’s executive.

Recipients of the Athlete of the Year awards are selected based on several factors, including individual performance, team performance, experience and leadership.

Brooks was a stand out from both the pitcher’s circle and the bater’s box during Team Canada’s gold medal run in Guatemala.
