Napanee’s Scott Chadwick’s bid to return to the Brier came up just short with a loss in the Ontario Tankard page playoffs, Saturday evening in Cobourg.
Chadwick served as lead of Jonathan Beuk’s curling rink, representing Cataraqui Golf and Country Club. The team reached the page playoffs with a comeback win against Brent Ross on Saturday morning, rallying from a 6-2 deficit and capture an 8-7 win. The two sides were tied heading into the tenth end with Beuk picking up one to seal the win and advance from the C side of the tournament bracket.
That victory earned a spot in the playoffs, where they took on Mark Kean, with a trip to the semifinals on the line.
Beuk fell behind 3-0 in the first but responded with two in the second and one each in the third and fourth. Beuk led 5-4 heading into the seventh before Kean got one back to tie stole two in the eighth to pull ahead and ultimately hang on for the win.
Overall the Beuk rink went 5-3 at the Tankard.
