Cal Uens had a productive road trip south of the border, recording seven points in two games to help the Kingston Frontenacs to a pair of wins in Ontario Hockey League action.
The 19-year-old Napanee defenceman, who also serves as the team’s assistant captain, started the week off with a goal and three assists in Kingston’s 9-5 win over the defending Memorial Cup champion Saginaw Spirit on Jan. 30. He finished +3 on the night while also picking up two minutes worth of penalties.
Still in Michigan for a Feb. 1 showdown against the Flint Firebirds, Uens once again found the back of the net, also adding two helpers on the evening to finish +2 in Kingston’s 7-4 victory.
Back in Canada on Sunday afternoon, Uens was held off the scoresheet but still contributed to a 4-2 road win over the Sarnia Sting.
For the season Uens is now sporting four goals with 15 assists while boasting a +14 rating in 47 games played. The four goals and 15 assists tie his career high, tough he still has 21 regular season games remaining to break those personal bests. The 19 total points eclipsed his previous high of 18, which he set during his rookie season in 2021-22 while with the Owen Sound Attack.
Uens’ hot stretch has helped the Frontenacs an 8-2 record over their last 10 games, catapulting them into first place in the OHL’s East Division with a record of 28-12-5-2, one point ahead of the Brantford Bulldogs with two games in hand. The Oshawa Generals are two points back.
The Frontenacs will return home Friday to Slush Puppie Place to host the Firebirds for a 7 p.m. puck drop in downtown Kingston.
