Napanee Stars report: U18 Stars tournament champs in Minden

The Napanee U15 Stars faced off with Brighton on Saturday, and maintained their winning ways with a 6-1 victory. In less than a minute early in the first Mitchell Turner went high blocker side, and Dylan Kemp deked the netminder going left to right to make it 2-0. Blake Wood converted a rebound in the slot, while Kemp repeated his earlier move late in the period to extend their lead. In the third, Carter Slaven scored a pair- the first right off the faceoff, and the second less than a minute later. Their guests would score in the dying seconds, but the damage had been done, as the shots favoured the Stars 67-15. Aidan Difazio got the win playing most of the game. Joaquim Murray played the first 1:16 as Difazio sorted out equipment problems.

In Douro, on Sunday the boys were also 6-1 winners.

-The U18 Stars won the Cory Hodgson Tournament in Minden, hosted by the Highland Storm. In a return match with Petawawa, they clinched the championship with a 2-1 victory. Earlier, they won their first two games in their division, 2-1 over Bancroft and a 5-0 shutout of Petawawa. Facing Owen Sound, they earned a 2-2 tie. In the semifinals, facing Midland on Sunday morning, they edged the competition 4-3 to reach the Finals.

-The Tomlinson Group U11 Stars dominated Douro 11-3 at the SPC. After spotting their guests a goal, the locals tallied the next nine on their way to an 11-3 win. Goals were scored by Brock Gunter (four), Chase Castagnier (four), Maddux Hartwick (two), and Keegan Wilde. The team remains in second place in league play.

-The Conger’s Plumbing U13AE squad, the alternate entry team playing up a level, were trounced 15-2 by Brighton. Jacob Lyons tallied with a high lob over the goalie on the power play, and Quinn McConnell took a feed from the corner to score the other power play goal. Nathan Zweirs faced a barrage of shots performing admirably, making several excellent saves.
