Registration is now open for kids born in 2010, ‘11 and ‘12 looking to play Quinte Skyhawks Minor Football this spring and summer.

Napanee will once again field a team known as the Junior Hawks, drawing players from Greater Napanee, Deseronto and Loyalist.

The league is a chance for players to get introduced to tackle football, giving them game experience in preparation for high school football and beyond.

“It’s tough to go into a contact sport at that age,” said Zac Woods, who played for the NDSS Golden Hawks during his high school career and is now a coach with the Junior Hawks. “It’s nice to have that discipline instilled while you’re young. We have safe hitting procedures. We don’t start off with contact until everyone’s comfortable with the sport and the rules and then we do a slow progression up. It is full contact football.”

Napanee will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays at Napanee District Secondary School while playing most of their league games in the Belleville area. The regular season will get underway in early May and run through June, with indoor practices leading into the season.

The cost for the season, which includes the use of gear provided by the team, is $275. Online registration can be done at https://www.bellevilleminorfootball.com/registration.
