The Napanee Raiders couldn’t have drawn up a better start to their Tod Division semifinals if they tried, posting a convincing 6-0 road win over the Frankford Huskies on Tuesday night.

Napanee’s offense was consistent, scoring two goals in every frame.

Blake Aylesworth scored a pair in the first, Christos Chronis and Ben White each scored in the second while Erik MacNiel and Trent Williams rounded out the scoring in the third. Logan Vale earned the shutout, turning away 37 shots.

For Frankford it was a less than stellar playoff debut after dominating the regular season. Tuesday’s loss marked their widest margin of defeat all season and just the fourth time they had surrendered six goals in a game. Perhaps more of a curse than blessing, the Huskies’ first round bye meant they hadn’t played a game since Feb. 24’s regular season finale. The Raiders meanwhile are rolling off a hard fought quarterfinal win over the Picton Pirates.

Strong start aside, the Raiders still have a long way to go before they complete the best-of-seven series upset. Game 2 will go Friday night at Napanee’s SPC. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
