The Napanee Raiders have issued the following statement on former player Troy Wylie
Our organization is devastated this morning by the news of the tragic passing of Troy Wylie at age 31.
Troy played for the Raiders from 2011-2012 to 2014-2015, and served as our alternate captain many of those years. The Kingston native could capably play forward – where he was seldom lost a battle along the boards – and defence, where he could be counted on for making simple, smart zone exits.
He was incredibly dedicated through good times and bad. He was remembered by those who played with him and coached him as a great teammate, a hard worker, and a kind, respectful person away from the rink who loved his family and friends. He also dedicated much to his career as a red seal mason, working for WJ Construction. Recently, he continued his hockey career with the Deseronto Bulldogs.
We extend our condolences to Troy’s financee Chelsea, his parents Pete and Tammy, their family and the many whose lives were better for having known him.
The Deseronto Bulldogs also issued a statement:
Troy will be remembered by his teammates, our staff and those that had the pleasure of knowing him for his incredible dedication, heart, selflessness, work ethic and positivity. Troy had a massive impact on our organization both on and off the ice, a player who never complained about icetime, lineup changes or role/position that was asked of him on any given night. Troy was extremely grateful and respectful and only cared about the common goal we all have, winning games and winning a championship.
Troy was everything an organization searches for in a player, good hockey players that are even better people.
Troy attended community and team events and understood the importance of giving back to those that support us, his commitment to this organization never wavered.
We extend our deepest condolences to Troy’s fiancé Chelsea, his parents Pete and Tammy, their family and the many other people who’s live’s were impacted by knowing him.
The loss of Troy will be irreplaceable, however we will do our best to move forward as an organization that will dedicate this season to his memory.
We know Troy will still be with us every step of the way and his impact will be the wind in our sails.
Until we meet again buddy.
