An increase in mischievous activity after dark at the Rotary splash pad and park in Napanee has prompted the local OPP to remind residents of the rules associated with the park.
In response to the increase in vandalism, noise complaints and loitering, the Town of Greater Napanee has installed large signs depicting the rules and hours of the park. Napanee OPP will also be stepping up their patrols of the area as well.
“We have a lovely new park and it’s very populated now because it is such a wonderful park, but we also want to be mindful of other citizens in the area,” said Napanee OPP Cst. Shannon Cork. “So after dusk the park closes. There shouldn’t be anyone in the park after dusk. There’s a sign posted with rules and the rules have to be followed or else there could be trespass to property charges.”
That includes the public bathrooms that are on site, which close and are locked after 9 p.m.

They’re also asking for the public’s help to help keep the area safe as not only has park property been damaged, but so too has residential property across the street from the park.
“We’re seeing some problems with mischief to property so if anyone sees any suspicious activity we’d like them to report it to 9-1-1 so we can come up and investigate,” said Cork.
She also added that any damage that is done to the park costs tax money to repair and leaves kids with one less thing to do on a hot summer day.
Cork says the park is also an alcohol and tobacco free environment at all times.
“There’s signs posted there saying the town has surveillance cameras set up and police can review the data and go back and do enforcement action on anybody that’s seen on the camera, and we have done that,” said Cork.
“It’s a beautiful park, we want everyone to enjoy it,” added Cork. “Especially on these hot days. They just shouldn’t be there after hours.”
