Napanee man wins big on Lotto 6/49

Napanee's Richard Morton collected his winnings in Toronto after purchasing a winning Lotto 6/49 ticket at Wallace's in Napanee.

Richard Morton of Napanee can “find his possible” after winning a LOTTO 6/49 second prize worth $67,491.70 in the Dec. 30, 2023 LOTTO 6/49 draw.

Morton, a retired truck driver, said he’s been a weekly lottery player for the past 10 years. He likes to play LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX and this is his first big win.

“I was at the store with a friend when I checked my ticket on the ticket checker. I saw the Big Winner screen and was surprised. I called my friend over and said, ‘Do you want to see something cool?’ Then I scanned the ticket to show him. He was thrilled for me,” Morton shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his cheque.

The 71-year-old said there was a spring in his step for the rest of the day. “I feel blessed – this win means a lot for me, especially as a retiree.”

He plans to treat himself to new furniture, upgrade his vehicle and invest the rest.

LOTTO 6/49 offers players a chance to win two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday, for the same $3 per play.

The Classic Draw offers a fixed $5 million jackpot for every draw, while the Gold Ball Draw guarantees a $1 million prize, or the growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can exceed $60 million.

The winning ticket was purchased at Wallace’s Gift Centre on Dundas Street in Napanee.
