A collection of the region’s best and brightest wordsmiths will again be highlighted by the Lennox and Addington Libraries as they host their fourth annual Local Author Showcase and Great Big Book Sale June 9.

Held at the Napanee Branch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the showcase will feature 19 local authors who will be on hand to promote their work and meet the public.

“We always have local authors coming to the library and wanting to do presentations or events,” said Patricia Richard, programming and outreach coordinator for County of L&A Libraries. “This is the easiest way to get everyone together.”

Once again the event is being held in partnership with Greater Napanee’s Riverfront Festival, which is centralized just up the road from the library in Conservation Park.

Weather permitting, the authors will be setup at tables on the library’s patio and guests will have a chance to chat with them.

“They get to meet each other and the community gets to see just how many authors there are,” said Richard. “Nineteen of them after four years is pretty good.”

The authors will be a mix of returnees from previous years as well as a handful of new ones.

“There’s lots of different genres,” said Richard. “There’s biographies, mystery and text book. It’s a good mix.”

The showcase is also a great opportunity for aspiring writers to pick the brain of someone who has been published.

“There’s lots of people that come through and talk about how to get published or how to self-publish,” said Richard. “There’s also high school students that come through and have the question of ‘how did you even come up with that much to write?’ The authors are very good about sharing that information and how they’ve gone about publishing their writing.”

Guests that attend the event will also be given a ‘passport’, which can be stamped by the authors. If they get a stamp from each author, they can be entered into a draw to win a gift card.

During the event the library will also hold a used book sale, selling five books for a dollar. The money raised will go toward the library.
