Lennox and Addington’s Youth Hub and Napanee Community Health Centre will be making tracks in the New Year, starting with a family snowshoe trek through Roblin’s Menzel Centennial Provincial Nature Reserve on Jan. 14.

Weather permitting, the plan is to snowshoe 1.8 km (one way) to Mud Lake, with snowshoes provided. In the event there is no snow, the event will go ahead as a regular hike. Each family will receive a ‘passport’ that contains 10 nature items that will need to be found along the way. When participants find the item there will be a sticker waiting there for them to include in their passport. Each nature item will also have a piece of education about it that hikers will read and then write into their passport.

At the end of the trek there will be hot chocolate and snacks at the picnic table at Mud Lake, and then hike the 1.8 km back to the street. Snacks are provided to attendees. Families that find all 10 stickers and answer all 10 questions about nature will get put into a draw for some awesome prizes.

The free event runs 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As of right now, youth will need to have transportation to the trail, and be accompanied by an adult during the hike (the Youth Hub is working on offering families bus transportation from downtown Napanee if needed, if this is helpful for please contact katherinet@kchc.ca or 613-449-5678.)

Registration is required as there are only 20 pairs of snowshoes. Registration must be made by Jan. 11. Please contact katherinet@kchc.ca or 613-449-5678 to register.

Menzel Park is located on Roblin Road, 7.5 km west of County Rd. 41.
