Napanee man charged with assaulting a police officer following a collision

On March 19 at approximately 6 p.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP were dispatched to a report of single motor vehicle collision on Main Street in Deseronto.

Officers arrived on scene and located the driver, who was observed to be showing signs of impairment. During the officers’ interaction with the driver, the driver assaulted two officers.

As a result, L&A County OPP arrested and charged a 32-year-old of Napanee with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Two counts of assault a peace officer

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on April 12. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

-On March 20 at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 401 in Napanee, after it was observed by officers travelling at a high rate of speed.

After stopping the vehicle, officers observed the driver to be showing signs of impairment.

As a result, L&A County OPP arrested and charged a 19-year-old of Grafton, Ontario, with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Race a motor vehicle
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on April 5. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
