Museum to host pair of Earth Day themed events

Lennox and Addington Museum and Archives.

In celebration of Earth Day approaching on April 22, the Museum of Lennox & Addington will offer two programs centered on the environment during the last week of April.

On Saturday, April 22 at 1:30 p.m., the Museum will offer a Heritage Arts Workshop. Titled Earth Day Bouquet, participants will learn paper folding techniques to create a one-of-a-kind bouquet using gently used books. The workshop will be taught by Sherri of Reclaimed Words, a Kingston-based artist who creates art and home décor pieces with paper folding techniques from recycled and used books. This Heritage Arts Workshop is intended for ages 13+. The cost is $35 per person, and pre-payment and registration is required to attend. Registration closes by end of day Thursday, April 20. Visit the webpage here to register online, or call the Museum at 613.354.3027.

Tuesday Night at the Museum on April 25th will feature guest speaker Dr. Shelley Arnott, a Professor in the Biology Department at Queen’s University. Dr. Arnott will speak to the impact of road salts on aquatic life. While the use of road salt is critical for reducing vehicle accidents and saving lives, it can have a negative impact on aquatic ecosystems and the services they provide. In this informative talk, learn about current research taking place to find safer alternatives that will protect our lakes and streams. The presentation will begin at 7 pm, with museum doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $3 per person to attend, and no pre-registration is required. Learn more about the event here.
