Multiple OPP detachments work together to nab driver accused of stealing a vehicle, stunt driving and flight from police

On Jan. 20 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP observed a vehicle with no tail lights travelling at a high rate of speed on Hwy 401 eastbound in Loyalist Township.

Officers observed the vehicle driving dangerously and initiated a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop and for public safety police discontinued following the vehicle. L&A County OPP notified neighbouring jurisdictions of the suspect vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen from Tweed earlier in the evening and the vehicle theft was being investigated by Central Hastings OPP.

Frontenac OPP and Leeds County OPP were able to locate the vehicle and use a tire deflation device to effect a traffic stop and subsequent arrest of the driver.  Leeds County OPP transferred the accused to L&A County OPP officers for processing.

  • Eight counts of operating a vehicle while prohibited
