A very special guest will be at the Waterfront River Pub and Terrace on Dec. 4, raising funds for Morningstar Mission while offering mule-tide greetings.

That guest is Donkey-who also happens to be a donkey-and he’ll be available to pose for Christmas photos from noon to 2 p.m. All Donkey asks in return is a monetary donation for the Morningstar Mission’s warming centre, which is set to open on Dec. 19. Though Donkey wouldn’t be opposed to an apple or a carrot as well.

Waterfront owner Jane Adams-Roy said the fundraiser was the brainchild of some of her servers, one of which being Donkey’s owner Halle Gibson.

“We had been talking that the warming centre was a little short on cash and I said (a photo fundraiser with a donkey,) that is an absolutely fabulous idea, let’s do it,” said Adams-Roy. “Donkey is 15, he’s really lovely. We actually had him in last Friday morning…he loves kids, he loves being out, but I said let’s just give him a trial one and he was wonderful.”

After a successful dry run, the date was set. Already a social media darling, word of Donkey’s visit has garnered plenty of buzz and figures to be fun event for the whole family, all for a good cause.

The Waterfront is located at 22 Water St. W in Napanee.

As Morningstar gets set to open the overnight warming centre in the coming weeks, they are still accepting volunteers. Anyone interested in helping can reach out through the Mission’s Facebook page or dropping by the centre at 58 Water St.
