The annual Memorial Ride to Remember and the National Peace Officer Memorial Run will be making a stop in Greater Napanee today.

This year marks the 46th annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers memorial service on Sunday, Sept. 24 at Parliament Hill, Ottawa.

To raise awareness of the annual memorial service and the officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, law enforcement officers and family members participate in the annual Memorial Ride to Remember and the National Peace Officer Memorial Run. The ride is a 6-day 1000+ km bike ride from the Ontario Police College to Ottawa, while the run is a 3-day 460 km run from Queen’s Park to Parliament Hill.

Officers will be passing through Greater Napanee today. The ride arrived around 8:30 a.m. and made a brief stop at Royal Coachman Restaurant. The OPP Commissioner was on hand to present a bike and helmet to a preselected youth. The runners will arrive around 11 a.m. at Springside Park. The route will follow along Belleville Rd. in front of NDSS to Bridge St., traveling east to Highway 2. Members of the community are encouraged to support the participants by lining the streets along the route as we remember the fallen.
