McCRACKEN, Earlien Gladys

McCRACKEN, Earlien Gladys

February 8, 1939 – January 15, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Earlien McCracken, on Monday, January 15, 2024 at the age of 84. Earlien was best friend and beloved wife of 63 years to Maurice (deceased), much loved sister of Cecil Thomas (late Robert), adored mother of Wendyth (Harold), Wayde (deceased), David (deceased) (Kathy) and Denise (Greg), proud grandmother to Kathleen, Heather (Corey), Matthew (Bonnie), Elias, Satchel, Connor (Kat), Jackson (Elisabeth), Reilly, and joyful great-grandmother to our beautiful Finley, Calvin, Marlow and Opie.
Earlien was born and grew up in Napanee, Ontario. She was a dynamic homemaker and community leader while her family was young. As her children grew into their own independence, Earlien exercised hers by taking up part-time employment with Birks Jewelers, where she became head of the repair department and enjoyed working in the world of fine china, beautiful jewelry, and exquisite silverware. Throughout her life Earlien provided collaborative leadership and many volunteer hours to her church community, to the Girl Guides, and to maintaining meaningful and supportive relationships with a wide circle of friends. She was an active member of her church choir, and was proud of her role as Regional Commissioner with the Girl Guides of Canada. Always together, Earlien and Maurice were avid travelers, square dancers, and bridge players. Above all else, Earlien’s pride and joy were her family. There was nothing she liked better than being together with family or friends, sharing great conversation and laughter around a meticulously set table and a perfectly cooked meal.
Earlien’s legacy is one of love, integrity, service and community. Her life blessed us with thoughtful leadership, strength, and a wonderful example of life well lived. She will be remembered for her loyal friendships, welcoming home, faith and love of family.
The family would like to thank the wonderful team at Lakefield Extendicare for their exceptional care of Mom during her time there, and for their support to us through a very difficult time. Their compassion and professionalism during the past months made a true and important difference.
A celebration of Earlien’s life will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Trinity-St. Andrews United Church, 56 Prince Edward St, Brighton, ON. Doors will be open at 1:00 pm, with the celebration of life beginning at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow in the church hall. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (https://alzheimer.ca/en) or to Trinity-St. Andrew’s United Church (http://www.trinitystandrews.ca) would be welcomed by the family.
