Manion off to 2-0 start from the pitcher’s circle, Brooks drives in three as Canada improves to 3-2 at Softball World Cup

Canada’s U23 Men’s team wrapped up the opening round of the WBSC Softball Cup in Argentina with a 3-2 record.

The team features a pair of Napanee players in Connor Brooks and Riley Manion.

At the dish Brooks has driven in three runs over his first five games, while scoring a pair. He’s picked up two hits in 10 at bats, including a double.

Manion has seen action in three games from the pitcher’s circle, including two starts, both of which he won. In 10.2 innings he’s posted a 1.97 ERA, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out 15. Opponents are hitting just .154 against.

The Canadians blanked Team Israel 7-0 this afternoon in five innings to cap off the opening round.

Canada dropped their opening match on Saturday by a score of 2-0 to Venezuela before rebounding the next day for an 11-1 win over Team WBSC. After a 5-1 loss to Japan they finished off with two straight victories, 5-3 over New Zealand and 7-0 over Israel.

The tournament continues through April 23.
