Man accused of York Street arena arson denied bail

Jay Bradley, who operated a roller skating business from the York Street arena, has been charged in relation to the October fire that destroyed the building.

Jay Bradley, the man charged with two counts of arson stemming from the fire at Napanee’s York Street arena, has been denied bail.

The 49-year-old had his bail hearing heard by justice of the peace Leona Dombrowsky on Thursday, appearing via video-link at the Napanee courthouse.

Bradley was arrested on Nov. 4 in relation to two fires that occurred in the early morning of Oct. 23, the first at the Lennox Agricultural Memorial Community Centre and the second at a residence in Stone Mills which belongs to the president of the Lennox and Agricultural Society. He faces  two counts of arson with disregard for human life, one count of criminal harassment and one count of possession of incendiary material.

Bradley had rented the York Street arena from the Agricultural Society for four years, where he operated a roller skating business. He was evicted from the building just a few weeks before the fire following a very public disagreement about the lease.

He remains in custody at Lindsay’s Central East Correctional Centre and is next scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23, 2024.
