Erinsville’s Maddie Wheeler and Bradford’s Hannah Murphy have been named to Team Canada’s Women’s National Development Team roster.

Wheeler, who plays forward, and Murphy, who plays in net, were two of 23 players added to the roster that will take on the United States’ national team for a three game series in Calgary, Atla. starting on Wednesday night. The two teams will meet again Thursday and then wrap up the series on Saturday.

Wheeler and Murphy earned their way onto the team with a strong showing at the BFL National Women’s Program selection camp, which was held Aug. 3-14.

Wheeler, who played for the NDSS Golden Hawks during her four-year high school career, is heading into her third year as a member of the University of Wisconsin Badgers.

Though Murphy no longer lives in area, she got her start in hockey as a member of the Napanee Crunch, playing her first five years with the program. Now 19, she is a member of New York State’s Colgate University hockey team.

The selection camp marks the unofficial start of a new four-year Olympic cycle for Team Canada.
