Loyalist’s 22nd annual Light Up the Season kicks off Nov. 23

The first Light up the Season event held at Fairfield House in 2000.

On Saturday, Nov. 23, Loyalist Township will be hosting the 22 annual Light Up the Season community event.

Loyalist Township invites guests to Fairfield Park on Nov. 23rd, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., to kick off the holiday season with our annual Light Up the Season event. Located at 4574 Bath Road, Amherstview, this free event is a celebration of community spirit and holiday cheer.

Enjoy family-friendly activities, including wagon rides, live music, milk and cookies, hot chocolate, marshmallow roasting, ornament making, and a special visit from Santa and his reindeer. To ensure a smooth experience, guests are encouraged to park at the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre and take advantage of the free shuttle service running every 15 minutes starting at 2:45 p.m. Please note that on-site parking at Fairfield Park is limited to accessible parking only. Also, there is no parking along Hwy 33 for the duration of the event.

The highlight of the evening will be the lighting of the trees at Fairfield Park for the first time this season. From Nov. 23rd through early February, the park will be beautifully illuminated each evening, creating a magical atmosphere for all to enjoy.

This beloved tradition began 22 years ago when a local community group came together to decorate two trees at Fairfield House, one with white lights and the other with coloured lights. Since then, with the help of many hands, the event has grown into a cherished community gathering that captures the spirit of the holiday season.

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, including Ontario Power Generation, Stock Transportation, Amherstview Foodland, Amherstview Lions Club, and the L&A County Dairy Association, all activities are free of charge.

Alongside Light Up the Season, Loyalist Township is spreading holiday cheer with Community Trees at four special heritage locations. They’re inviting schools, families, and organizations to get crafty and add homemade decorations to these trees. They can be found at the Bath Museum, Bath’s Centennial Park North by the gazebo, Babcock Mill, and the Neilson Store Museum and Cultural Centre.

They’d love for guests to visit these festive spots throughout December and enjoy the handiwork of neighbours. Need supplies? No problem! Pick up a family-sized ornament kit at the Municipal Office in Odessa, the Leisure & Activity Centre or Manitou Office in Amherstview, or the Neilson Store Museum and Cultural Centre on Amherst Island.
