Loyalist to host free family fishing event May 13 on Amherst Island

Loyalist Township will be hosting a Family Fishing Day event in connection with Ontario Family Fishing Events, on Saturday, May 13.

The fun will take place from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. at the Neilson Store Museum and Dock located at 5220 Front Road, Stella, Amherst Island. This event is a drop-in style event, so participants can feel free to join in the fun at any time between those hours. Pre-registration is required.

This family friendly event will feature fun games, crafts, face-painting, live music, a community fundraiser, cash barbecue and, of course, fishing from the dock.
Industry professionals will also be on hand with booths to showcase and share water safety tips and information on invasive species, natural habitats, impact of pollution, and much more.

The Neilson Store Museum and Cultural Centre will also be opening for the day, so visitors can swing into the museum to learn about the history of Amherst Island.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a fishing rod or two, life jackets and join in the fun.
Ontario Family Fishing Events is a province-wide opportunity for Canadian residents to fish Ontario waters for free. The Ontario Government has designated four periods throughout the year as free fishing, and Saturday, May 13 is one of those dates.

The event is free for all to enjoy. Pedestrians can board the Amherst Island ferry at no charge.
