Lt. Col. LeRoy Grant, a veteran of WWI, was the guest speaker of the regular meeting of the Napanee Lions Club.
Col. Grant gave an address which was heard with great interest. He briefly outlined the 14 points of the Versailles Treaty, which he said had been attacked several times. Some people said the treaty was too easy and let the Germans off easy. Others said it was too severe and many of the problems of the day were because of it.

The Ministry of the Environment had scheduled a public information meeting for Oct. 19, 1989 at Napanee town hall to review a clean-up order for gas-saturated soil around the Napanee Mall.
Napanee Mall owners, representatives from Suny’s Gas Bar and CDN Petroleum were all named on the order, all legally binding them as responsible for the clean-up bill.
-A teen charged with five counts of criminal negligence causing death to five Toronto area youths was scheduled to appear before Family Court in Napanee on Nov. 15, 1989.
The teen was driving a stolen car on Feb. 3, accompanied by five teen escapees from a youth detention centre in York. When an OPP cruiser pulled up behind them an activated its lights, the stolen 1979 Pontiac Parisienne cut across the median of Hwy 401, where it collided head-on with a produce truck.
Contract talks between the Lennox and Addington County Board of Education and secondary teachers were set to resume on Oct. 15, 1989 when the two parties would meet for a three day bargaining session in Kingston.
As many as 180 teachers of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation had been without a contract since Aug. 31 of that year.
A Cobourg area business man faced his third day of preliminary hearings in Cobourg court in connection with the death of a Napanee man.
60-year-old Howard Dickson was accused of shooting an 18-year-old. The police were yet to determine a motive for the murder.
Another page had been turned in the ongoing boundary talks saga between Richmond Township and the Town of Greater Napanee.
Both municipalities had agreed to form a joint committee to set the terms of reference for a proposed boundary study by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.
