Cheese prices made a ‘substantial’ comeback when the price advanced to just less than 12 cents per pound.
-The annual meeting of the Napanee Drama Society was held in council chambers to discuss which play would be featured at the upcoming Napanee Fair.
-A special service was held at the Church of St. Alban the Martyr in Adolphustown to mark the 155th anniversary of the first landing party of the United Empire Loyalists.

A young Amherst Island student who had been studying at the University of Hong Kong arrived safely in Canada after escaping the violence following the uprising at Tiananmen Square.
Nineteen-Year-Old Perry McDonald was able to flee the country by catching one of the Canadian evacuation flights to Tokyo.
-Julie Paul, a Grade 7 student at Westdale Park Public School, earned a silver medal at the Canadian National Science Fair.
Her exhibit was titled Microwave Enhanced Germination.
-Ernestown residents, upset that council had implemented mandatory garbage pick up for the township, was urging council to take a second look at their decision.
A petition with 150 names was presented to council of ratepayers who were opposed to garbage pickup. The petition called upon council to make exception for rural residents who wanted to take their own garbage to the township’s landfill site.
-The Napanee Beaver was named the best newspaper in its class by the Canadian Community Newspaper Association.
The Beaver was also judged to have the second best front page, best photo essay, feature story and it was awarded a blue ribbon.
-Former Napanee resident Paul Macklam was sentenced to life imprisonment in Cobourg for a first degree murder of a Carrying Place woman in 1987.
-Selby’s Nava Walker was named the 1989 Bus Driver of the Year by the Ontario Public School’s Teacher Federation.
