April 26, 1939
Princess Elizabeth, then heir presumptive to the British Throne, celebrated her 13th birthday.
-Pharmaceutical publication Drug Merchandising recognized Frank Callaghan, a former employee of Wallace’s Drug Store. A student at Toronto’s College of Pharmacy, Callaghan was named holder of the Senior Stick, which is presented with no campaigning or no nominations, but is awarded based on the spontaneous expression of student opinion.
Arrangements were made at Napanee’s town hall for several local children visit Kingston and witness the visit of King George and Queen Elizabeth, who were going to be in Kingston in May of 1939. Kingston was one of several whistle stops held by the royals held across Canada to boost morale in light of the looming war.
-Napanee’s Rotary Club welcomed Belleville mayor Jamieson Bone, and heard him speak of some of the problems facing Canada, including Canada’s National Railways costing taxpayers too much as well as the trade pact with the United States.

April 12, 1989
Napanee District Secondary School named Barbara Marlin as acting principal.
The former Amherstview Public School principal was appointed by the Lennox and Addington Board of Education and would take effect Aug. 1 of 1989.
Outgoing NDSS principal Rod Hughes was leaving to be a board resource teacher responsible for curtailing drop-out rates.
-A report on the operation of county government in Ontario was released by the province and urged counties to assume more responsibility for waste management and planning.
-A second stabbing in a week at Millhaven Institute had one inmate in hospital while others were locked in their cells.
-NDSS student Susan Schenk was named honourary mayor as part of local government week.
nBoth NDSS’ senior and junior teams were the top team at the Bay of Quinte Badminton Championship, held in Belleville.
-NDSS gymnast Jennifer Maracle topped 51 competitors to become provincial champion at an Ontario Federation of Ontario Secondary School (OFSSAA) event, held in Kitchener. Maracle became the first provincial champion gymnast in school history.
