Long list of charges for suspect after driving wrong way on Hwy 401

On Feb. 7, 2021 at approximately 6:15 a.m., officers of the Lennox & Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a wrong way vehicle.

An off duty officer observed a vehicle travelling the wrong way on the eastbound Hwy 401 off ramp at Camden East. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle however it evaded him and continued onto the highway. A short distance later the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a fence on the south side of Hwy 401 where the suspect fled on foot.

A subsequent investigation revealed that an individual had entered a residence on Sharpe Road by damaging a garage door.  An All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) side by side, as well as approximately $7,000 in cash and clothing was stolen.

At around 7:30 a.m., officers initiated a traffic stop of a side by side being driven on Vent Road.  The driver fled on foot into a wooded area and, after a short foot pursuit, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for processing.

Police seized an ATV, a Truck, approximately $8000 cash in Canadian currency and clothing.

As a result of the investigation L&A County OPP have charged a 36-year-old of Kingston with:

·      Theft of motor vehicle

·      Resist police officer

·      Three counts of possession of property obtained by crime

·      Three counts of mischief

·      Theft Over $5,000

·      Four counts of fail to comply with probation order

·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – methamphetamine

·      Drive wrong way on highway

·      Drive while under suspension

·      Fail to remain at the scene of an accident

The accused was held for a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on Feb. 8.
