Sharon T Murphy is a friend, a sister, a mother, a grandmother and most recently a self published author.

Murphy, who lives in Amherstview, has a goal to get kids more interested in mother nature again. With all the technology now-a-days, Murphy wants kids to be able to be themselves without screens always in their faces.

Recently at the Loaf & Ale, the 73-year-old author showcased her first two books, i love and What Do You See. Both are photography books of pictures she has taken, all except one picture.

“I like to affect as many kids as I can because I’m so tired of kids and computers and screens,” expressed Murphy. “I like to get my grandkids and my niece out with a camera in nature and they love it.”

Murphy told of how she wants to make more photography books. One of Napanee, one on abandon houses, and one where she plans to hold a contest for kids to get into nature and the best pictures will make it into a book.

“I want to do a book on Napanee, I love Napanee.” Murphy stated. “The other thing I would like to do is I want to do one book with abandoned houses and one where I have a contests where the kids can get their parents or guardians to take them out into nature and I want to do a book with the best pictures.”

Other projects Murphy spoke on were wanting to go to Deseronto to the fairs next years and enter some of the kids pictures..

“My grandson and I were going down trails when he was three and he was loving photography,” Murphy said. “It’s amazing and they take such great pictures.”

Murphy’s favorite part of making these book is taking the pictures and capturing the beauty of our world.

“What made me want to make these books is my love for trees and I love to get kids interested in mother nature, that’s my goal,” expressed Murphy. “For kids to ‘let me be me’ and ‘do the best you can and be happy with it’ are some of my mottos for the kids.”

Inside her i love book are an array of pictures, from horses to birds, boats to barns, flower to trees and so much more.

Inside her What Do You See book are pictures of trees. But not just any trees, trees with faces naturally made into them. Wether that be a little bear face in the snow on a tree, or a wire going through a log making a smile, this book makes the reader want to keep turning the pages and looking for the faces.

“It’s amazing what we don’t see when were not really looking, especially with trees,” Murphy declared. “I think when we start opening our eyes and we see just how much we have missed, it’s pretty eye opening. I can have a lot of difficulties in my life but I can go and take pictures and it’s like a whole different world, very therapeutic.”

Murphy’s creative, imaginative, open and one-of-a-kind mind is one this world needs.

“Kids are just wonders,” declared Murphy. “And the other thing about kids is, as kids we’re born, we learn how to talk, how to walk and then we go to school and we learn how we’re not up to the other kids, which isn’t right. Kids are my thing and kids all have their own talent.”
