Lennox and Addington County General Hospital volunteers past and present are invited to an open house at the Westdale Complex, Oct. 14 from 1-4 p.m.

The event is being held in celebration of 60 years for LACGH Volunteer Services, as well as a way of showing appreciation for all those who gave countless hours to ensure the hospital ran smoothly.

We started in 1962, we were actually in existence before the hospital was built,” said Susan Jack, a member of the hospital’s Volunteer Services, who is helping to organize the event. “We were meeting in people’s homes and that. It was called the Axillary until 2006, then the name was changed to Volunteer Services to the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital.”

Over the years the role of hospital volunteer has evolved.

Right now we have coffee shop, gift shop, courtesy desk, lottery ticket desk, we have volunteers going into patient care, X-rays and the downstairs clinics. We’re opening up more areas all the time,” said Jack.

The open house will feature old photos and some biographies for some of the longest-serving volunteers.

Jack says she holds they’ll have a large turnout of volunteers as they play a vital role in the success of the hospital, not only in its current day-to-day operations, but also helping to get it established in the first place.

The Westdale Complex is located at 12 Richmond Park Dr. in Napanee, right across the street from the hospital.
