Lennox and Addington County General Hospital’s Benefit Golf Tournament is back and set to tee off Aug. 4 at the Napanee Golf and Country Club.
The tournament, which typically generates $25,000 for the LACGH Foundation, returns after a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic. As an added precaution participation will be capped at 80 golfers with scheduled tee times and boxed meals.
“It’s unfortunate because this year was supposed to be our 25th anniversary,” said LACGH golf tournament chair Mike Airhart. “We had to cancel our 24th annual last year because of the pandemic. We’ve missed the Gala, we’ve missed the golf tournament, we thought let’s just try and get (this year’s golf tournament) going. A few other organizations ran some successful fundraisers last year in a safe manner.”
Only a worldwide pandemic was able to scrap last year’s tournament as the event has traditionally enjoyed extremely good fortunate in terms of weather over its previous 23 years.
As with every year, the event is quickly selling out. As of Thursday, there were just six spots remaining for teams of four. The cost is $125 per person or $500 for a team.
“We’d like to have many, many more if we could but unfortunately during the circumstances we can’t,” said Airhart. “So if people aren’t able to get in to golf to participate, if they want to volunteer maybe as hole-in-one (sponsors), or helping out around or we’re always looking for tournament sponsors, tee, green sponsors, lunch sponsors, anything like that. Everything we raise is going back to the hospital.”
Businesses looking to donate items for the silent auction could also help generate dollars for the cause. A lack of fundraising events coupled with the added costs of making the hospital better equipped to prevent the spread of COVID-19 has meant the hospital is again counting on the community.
