OSPCA Lennox and Addington Animal Centre is putting together an online auction that will benefit both their animals and local businesses.

The animal shelter is asking for donations of gift cards from local businesses, which they will then auction through their Facebook page.

“With social distancing and everything, we were trying to find a way to still be able to do an auction and then also in this case, it might be a help to local businesses as well, just encouraging people instead of bringing things, just go to their favourite business or go online to their favourite business in Napanee and buy a gift certificate or gift card and bring it to us and then we’ll auction it off,” explains L&A OSPCA manager Esther McCutcheon.

Donation of gift cards can be dropped into the mailbox of the L&A OSPCA at 156 Richmond Blvd. in Napanee, through email LennoxAddington@OSPCA.On.Ca or regular mail, K7R 3Z7.

“I’m hoping this allows people to help two people at once,” said McCutcheon. “We are still caring for the animals that we have at the animal centre. My staff is still working very hard. Although we are still closed for the moment, we do plan on re-opening at some point and this (auction) will help us get through to that time.”

McCutcheon hopes to have the auction online by July 6. Those that post the winning bid will receive their prize through the mail.

For the latest on the auction, visit their Facebook page Ontario SPCA Lennox and Addington Animal Centre.

Though they remain closed to the public, the staff is working on plans to organize options once they are deemed safe open from the government. That will include welcoming guests by appointment only. They are still able to accept outdoor aluminum donations at this time, but ask that any other donation wait until the centre is fully re-opened.
