L&A OPP recover four stolen vehicles over the weekend

L&A County OPP police responded to the report of a motor vehicle fire on County Road 14 just east of County Road 41. Police arrived on scene and the fire department was already on scene and had the fire put out. Police discovered that the vehicle and excavator was stolen out of Frontenac Township.

Officers of the Lennox and Addington OPP recovered four stolen vehicles of the weekend.

On Feb. 10, shortly before 2 p.m., officers from the L&A County OPP were on patrol and received a hit on the Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) for a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was parked at a local business on County Road 41 just north of Highway 401. Police confirmed that the vehicle was stolen out of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment area on Jan. 26, 2024. The lone male sitting in the drivers seat was arrested by police. The vehicle was returned to the owner.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged Raymond French, age 54, of Petawawa, with:

  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000

The accused was held for a bail hearing and released to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on March 5, 2024

On February 10, 2024, shortly before 5 p.m., officers from the L&A County OPP police responded to the report of a motor vehicle fire on County Road 14 just east of County Road 41. The driver of the vehicle had fled the scene. The vehicle was returned to its owner. A witness to the incident advised that approximately 30 minutes prior to police arrival, they observed the large flatbed truck traveling at a crawling pace, eastbound on County Road 14. Approximately 100 feet behind the truck, a vehicle described as a white crew cab pickup truck, presumed to be a GMC, was following at the same pace as the flatbed. Police were not able to locate the suspect(s). This investigation remains ongoing. On Feb. 11, 2024, shortly after 10 a.m., officers from the L&A County OPP were dispatched to an abandoned Kubota RTV in a field behind a house on Cutler Road in Stone Mills Township. When police arrived they did confirm that the vehicle was stolen. No one was seen in or around the area. The vehicle was returned to its owner. Police were not able to locate the suspect(s). This investigation remains ongoing. Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
