L&A OPP kept busy over May long weekend with multiple charges laid

Members of the Lennox and Addington OPP have charged four drivers in impaired driving related investigations over the long weekend.

On May 21, 2022 at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers were conducting traffic enforcement on County Road 8 in Napanee, when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle.

As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.

A 52-year-old, of Toronto was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Speeding 1 – 49 km/h over posted limit

 On May 21, 2022 at approximately 11:15 p.m., officers responded to an address in Napanee for a report of a disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and were advised that a vehicle being driven by a male had struck a parked vehicle before fleeing from the area.

As a result of an investigation, a 32-year-old, of Napanee was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Failure to stop after accident

On May 22, 2022 at approximately 6:30 a.m., an officer with the Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) Team was travelling eastbound on Hwy 401 in Napanee when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated and as a result of an investigation, the driver was arrested.

A 32-year-old of Montreal was charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Speeding 50+ km/h over posted limit

On May 24, 2022 at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers were conducting traffic enforcement on County Road 6 in Yarker. A traffic stop was conducted for a traffic related offence.

As part of the investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.

A 46-year-old, of Stone Mills Township was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Speeding 1 – 49 km/h over posted limit
  • Drive with seat belt assembly inoperative

All of the accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date. Their licences were suspended for 90 days and vehicles were impounded for seven days.
