L&A Libraries to host virtual tax seminar Feb. 9

Tax season is just around the corner so fittingly next month’s Lennox and Addington Library Seminar Series will focus on how to optimize a return.

Held virtually via Zoom on Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m., the seminar is aptly titled 2020 Was Taxing Enough: Talk Taxes with a Canada Revenue Agent.

The free event will cover credits and benefits available such as new recovery benefits, Canada worker benefits, Canada child benefit and more.

“With all the new benefits and credits and everything that came out in 2020, a lot of people are probably going to have questions on that,” said Kate Wilson, programming and outreach coordinator with Library Services for the County of L&A. “(The seminar is) bringing in a CRA agent to answer those questions and present different things that maybe people weren’t even aware of before the pandemic.”

To register for the event, visit picktime.com/LandALibraries. The event will be streamed virtually, meaning people can watch and interact with it from home.

“So much happened in 2020, why not learn how to get the most from it this tax season?” Wilson added.

The deadline to file taxes without incurring any penalties for money owed is April 30.

The seminar will be the third in the ongoing online seminar series Wilson launched in the wake of the pandemic. Last November the library hosted a workshop on mental health and earlier this month was a focus on healthy living. Coming up in March will be a talk centred on healthy eating, hosted by a nutritionist.

Along with the workshop, L&A Libraries have been hosting weekly storytime readings every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. To keep up to date with their virtual programming, search County of Lennox and Addington Libraries on Facebook.

Curbsside pickup is also available at all branches by visiting www.CountyLibrary.ca.
