L&A Libraries launches 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program

Lennox and Addington County Libraries is challenging parents and guardians to read 1,000 books with their little ones before their first day of school.

Known as 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, the challenge is part of a free literacy program for newborns, babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. The goal is to read 1,000 books with your little one before they start Kindergarten. The program will help little one develop a love of reading, provides guardians opportunities to bond, and helps children develop the early literacy skills they need for success later in life.
Progress in the program can be tracked by picking up a kit in an of L&A branches, using the READSquared app or download the form that can be printed and coloured at home.

The books don’t have to be 1,000 new books-repeat reads are perfectly acceptable. Books can be read many times as desired, and storytimes and audiobooks count, too.
Once finished all 1000 books, children will receive a certificate and their name will be proudly displayed on the library’s brag wall.
