Amy suggests A Winter in New York by Josie Silver

Devoted fans of Josie Silver will melt over her latest offering set in a gelato shop in Little Italy. Still suffering from grief over her mother’s death and the hurt of an abusive relationship, 30-something chef Iris, leaves London for a fresh start. Looking for the comfort of the special times she spent watching movies and eating gelato with her mother, she moves to New York city, the setting of many of their favourite rom-coms. After recognizing the unique and beautiful door of a nearby gelato shop in one of her mother’s photos, she starts to unravel the details of her mother’s time in New York in the 1980s. She eventually uncovers how her mother came into possession of the gelato recipe that is the exact same top-secret recipe from the Belotti Gelateria and vows to keep the secret. The only person in the Belotti family who knows the highly guarded recipe is Santo, but he can’t remember the recipe after having a stroke. Gio tries to recreate his uncle’s signature recipe but can’t get it quite right and struggles to keep the business afloat. When Iris figures out her mom’s gelato recipe is the lost recipe, instead of returning it to the Beloitti family, she decides on a convoluted scheme to steer Gio to the correct recipe over time. A steamy romance between the two ensues but can they build a lasting relationship if it’s based on secrets? Like a scoop of gelato on a hot day, this is a sweet and messy story.
