At their March 24, 2021 virtual meeting, Lennox and Addington County council passed a resolution asking the Ontario’s minister of long-term care to provide funding for Lennox and Addington’s Community Paramedic Program.
The ministry recently announced funding to expand Community Paramedics to long-term care in order to meet the needs of the targeted-LTC related population. At the time of the announcement, Lennox and Addington County did not have a community paramedic program and was not eligible to apply.
Since that time, Lennox and Addington County has put a community paramedic program in place and are providing services similar to other municipalities that received funding through the long-term care program.
Lennox and Addington County is now positioned to meet the criteria set out for this funding and can rapidly expand the community paramedic program should the ministry of long-term care provide funding for this critical program. Council has requested that the ministry reconsiderL&A County’s eligibility for the program.
In a strongly worded letter, warden Ric Bresee told minister Merrilee Fullerton, that “Lennox and Addington County residents have the expectation, and are entitled to receive the same level of service as people residing in their neighbouring municipalities.” wrote Breese. “County Council finds it untenable that our vulnerable residents who are waiting to enter long-term care are placed at such a disadvantage.”
