Bath’s Main Street will receive $72,000 in upgrades courtesy a provincial grant.

Hastings-Lennox and Addington Conservative MPP Darryl Kramp announced the Loyalist Township road was one of two roadways in his riding that would be receiving a combined $1.76 million in funding. The other is Monck Street in Bancroft.

The work on Bath’s Main Street will include resurfacing and box culvert replacement.

“This road was first built in the earliest days of the province, and between 1798 and 1801 was extended to link Kingston to Toronto (then, York) with that work headquartered at what is now Finkle’s Shore Park,” said Kramp of Bath’s Main Street, which is also part of the Loyalist Parkway. “So it will be interesting to see what artifacts may be recovered from the excavation work to come. It’s an important link and a very busy highway, and Bath continues to grow quickly, so this work will also be important for the local and area economy.”

Along with the infrastructure funding, Kramp’s office also announced the Ontario government would be directing funds to update the province’s math curriculum.

“I am proud we are investing $1,609,500 locally to help our students build the math knowledge and skills they need to succeed now, and in the future,” said Kramp.

These local supports are part of a four-year math strategy that puts focus on fundamental math concepts and skills, and how to apply them and part of a $55 million province-wide investment.

The Government has also launched a virtual resource, which will act as a summer learning refresher for students and parents. The online resource, called Math at Home, promises to help support student learning, mitigate against summer learning loss and ensure parents are aware of opportunities to help prepare their child for success in math.
