Devin King scored 9:26 into overtime to give the Napanee Raiders a 5-4 win over the Gananoque Islanders in Game 1 of their PJHL Tod Division semifinals at home Friday night.
King’s goal came on the power-play, making Napanee a perfect 3-for-3 on the man advantage.
Marshall McFarland scored Napanee’s first goal of the postseason at 13:52 on the power-play, tying the game at 1-1.
Gananoque jumped out to a 3-1 lead only to see the Raiders reel off three straight goals within a six minute span from Aidan McFarland, Alex Case and Justynn Steven.
Jack Dow scored late in the second to even the game at 4-4.
After combining for eight goals over the opening two periods, neither team found the back of the net over the final 20 minutes of regulation.
It took nearly half a period of overtime before King sent the home fans home happy to take an important 1-0 lead in the series.
Game 2 of the series will go Sunday in Gananoque. The teams return to Napanee on Tuesday for Game 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the SPC.
