Young cyclists will want to be in Conservation Park on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. as the Lennox and Addington Community Bike Shop hosts their second annual bike rodeo.

The free event is geared towards children 12 and under and will serve as a make up for the previously scheduled rodeo which was rained out at the museum earlier this summer.

“There will be a little obstacle course, kids will learn their hand signals and we’re going to safety check their bikes and make sure their helmets fit properly,” said Tyla Vrantsidis, who founded the community bike shop. “They’ll get a little certificate after they complete the course.”

A fundraising barbecue will also take part in the park, as well as the unveiling of a tandem bike, which will now be available to the public.

“The tandem bicycle is ready to roll,” said Vrantsidis. “That we will never give away, but we’re going to loan it out.”

Borrowers will simply provide their driver’s license number and then they will be able to check the bike out to ride around town.

The Community Bike Shop, which is operated by volunteers, opened last year and offers free repairs as well as provides bikes for kids in the community. They operate out of a garage in Conservation Park.
