KHSC declares COVID-19 outbreak on Davies 5 unit at Kingston General Hospital

The following is a press release from Kingston Health Sciences:

Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the Davies 5 unit of its Kingston General Hospital site. At this time, there are four patients and one staff member who have tested positive for COVID-19. The unit is now under quarantine and closed to admissions and visitors. KFL&A Public Health has been notified.

KHSC has notified all patients, families and staff affected by the outbreak.

The hospital’s infection prevention and control and occupational health teams are completing the necessary contact tracing and swabbing for individuals on the affected unit. Patients who have been discharged and who are deemed high risk are being contacted by Public Health and will be followed closely in the community. Stepped-up housekeeping measures have been implemented on the unit, including extra cleaning of all high-touch surfaces and common areas.

Patient care services continue as usual in all other areas of our hospital sites.

Keeping our patients and staff safe is our top priority,” says Elizabeth Bardon, COVID-19 Incident Commander at KHSC. “We wish our staff member a speedy recovery and we are working with our colleagues at Public Health to investigate this outbreak. We thank our staff and community for working hard to prevent the spread of the virus, including being cooperative with our screening processes, masking requirements and visitor restrictions.”

Members of the public who have symptoms of COVID-19 or concerns that they may have been exposed to the virus can seek testing at the COVID-19 Assessment Centre (Beechgrove Complex). Appointments can be booked online at https://ygkcovidtesting.coconutcalendar.com/.
