Following more than a week span between positive COVID-19 cases, Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health has upgraded the community status to ‘green’.
As of Wednesday morning there are seven active cases being tracked in the community, down from a high of 39 that were being tracked on July 6.
Following an outbreak stemming from a Kingston based nail salon in late June, the community was listed as ‘yellow’, which is the second level of the escalating colour chart. A ‘green’ rating, which is the best a community can achieve, means active cases are rare, there are no active outbreaks, the local hospital is operating at full capacity, cases are easily tracked, there is an ability to isolate and quarantine cases quickly and the region has a full testing capacity.
Since the start of the pandemic there have been 105 confirmed cases in the KFLA region, with 98 of them being listed as resolved with no deaths. Of the seven active cases, none were in hospital as of Wednesday morning.
KFLA’s community status upgrade comes just ahead of the province of Ontario’s plans to move into Stage 3 of their economy re-start plan on Friday. That means nearly all businesses can re-open, which includes gyms, movie theatres and indoor dinning. Indoor gatherings can now increase from a maximum of 10 people to 50, while outdoor gatherings can now expand up to 100 people. Playgrounds, community centres and libraries are also slated to re-open, while team sports and events can resume as part of Stage 3
Masks remain mandatory for all indoor public spaces across the KFLA region.
