KFLA Public Health reports record high 24 new COVID-19 cases Friday, move to orange level expected next week

KFLA Public Health reported 24 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the highest one day total in the region since the start of the pandemic.

The total number of active cases in the region is now at 94, which is also an all-time high for the region.

“Over one per cent of our tests are turning positive now, our rate of per 100,000 per week is up to 29,” said KFLA medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore in a video posted to the KFLA Public Health Twitter account. “This puts us typically in a higher risk category and we anticipate next week if these rates continue that the government will make a decision to move us into orange stage.”

Moore added there are currently over 600 high-risk contacts that are being monitored and more positive tests will undoubtedly come from those people.

The latest cases involve three females between 10-19, close contact, two females in their 20s, close contact, female in her 20s, under investigation, female in her 40s, under investigation, female in her 70s, close contact, female in her 70s, outbreak related, a male under 10, close contact, three males in their 20s, under investigation, seven males in their 20s, close contact, two males in their 50s, under investigation, a male in his 60s, under investigation and a male in his 60s, under investigation.
One person remains in the ICU. Five previous cases were listed as resolved.
The total number of cases since the start of the outbreak is now at 375.
