KFLA Public Health raises community status to yellow, four new COVID-19 cases confirmed

KFLA Public Health reported four new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases in the region to nine.

Three of the new cases are females under the age of 20 while another is a male in his 40s. Investigation determined the male was exposed to the virus through a close contact.

Along with reporting the new cases the health unit also raised the community status from ‘green’ to ‘yellow’, which is the second level of the four level coloured-coded system. A yellow rating means there are a few active cases, less than two active outbreaks and cases and contacts are reached within 24 hours of notification. Local hospitals are still able to operate at full capacity.

“Since Sept. 9, we have seen 14 new cases of COVID-19,” wrote KFLA Public Health minister of health Kieran Moore. “Most of these cases have been individuals under 30 years of age, female, and residents of the City of Kingston. KFL&A Public Health investigation into the source of infection for these cases is ongoing. Given this trend, KFL&A Public Health has deemed it important to signal the increased need for vigilance to prevent the further transmission of COVID-19 in our region.”

More added: we must all continue to work together, stay vigilant, and follow the public health measures to keep COVID-19 from spreading in KFL&A.
