KFLA Alzheimer Society to host pickleball tournament and silent auction fundraiser this weekend in Bath

A large group of pickleballers will gather this coming Sunday at 9 a.m. in Bath, for a fun tournament in support of the Alzheimer Society of KFLA. The event is the brainchild of Phil Golland, (a local Pickleball enthusiast whose Mother-in- Law lived with Alzheimers until 2018) who, with the help of a small group of friends, has managed to pull together a terrific tournament.

In conjunction with the Pickleball tournament, the Alzheimer Society will be hosting a silent auction on both July 9 and 10 – one that has been more than two years in the making, thanks to the pandemic. A small art auction, which was to be held in March of 2020 along with a live concert, was cancelled due to COVID, and organizers decided that now was as good a time as any to reinvent that auction.

Along with the many original works of art donated by local photographers and artists, the auction will also feature Heritage Quilts made by the Napanee Quilting Guild, Farmhouse Community Quilters, gift baskets from local breweries, golf packages, sports equipment and other related items, a large variety of gift certificates from local restaurants, salons and other services, garden related items, and much more.

The auction will be held on both Saturday, July 9 from 1-5 p.m, and Sunday, July 10 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held in the St. John Anglican Church/Lions Club Hall, 216 Church St. in Bath and is open to the general public – admission is free. Although the auction is in-person, individuals can view the items online at www.alzheimer.ca/kfla, and can email fundraising@alzking.com to place a reserve bid or call 613-888-1931 during auction hours.

On Saturday afternoon, visitors to the auction can enjoy the music of Three for a Quarter from 2 to 4 p.m. On Sunday, visitors are invited to watch the tournament and browse the silent auction items in the hall, which is directly across the road from the courts.

Fundraising Coordinator, Lesley Kimble says “it is so exciting to be getting back to seeing folks in person and to be able to host a public event once again. We are so appreciative of all the support we have received in pulling this event together and look forward to being able to celebrate a successful weekend event. We could not do this without the support of Phil’s pickleball group, individuals and the business community throughout KFLA, the Bath Lion’s Club and St. John’s Anglican Church”.

All monies raised throughout the weekend, will stay here in KFLA and will support the many programs and services offered by the Alzheimer Society which include, art and music therapy, recreational outings, one to one and group client, caregiver and family counselling, educational opportunities for the community and so much more! Anyone who would like more information about the Society can visit our website, or call the office at 613-544-3078. There will also be information available at the Hall on the weekend.
